Buddy Class

Room 5 had their buddy class session on Friday afternoon with Room 8. The children copied the year 5's and 6's and danced until home time. What a great end to the week. Ka Pai everyone!

Word Endings

 

We have been learning how to read and say different word endings. During the Orange's reading session, we picked out words from our book and circled the endings. The children read the whole word and sounded the ending out to the group. Ka Pai Luke, Hine, Eva and Oshin! 

Story Writing with Miss Kingston

This morning our tamariki went outside. Together we looked around us at all the things we could do. The tamariki pointed at the grass and said it was sparkling. The children picked up the grass and felt the droplets of water, we talked about dew and when it forms. We saw the flowers in the garden bed. Our learners used their senses of smell, sight and touch to examine the flowers and the grass. Here are some stories that the children wrote.

The Pretty Flowers 
Today we went outside and we were in front of Room Six and we smelt the flowers and it smelt beautiful. By Sione.

Room 5 is learning about fractions. Lillyan uses the language of mathematics to explain to her buddy, Mele what a half is.

Mele Creates a Magic Wand

Mele created a pink magic wand with her ipad. She used Explain Everything to do this. Watch the video to see how she did it. 

Making Shapes with Explain

Room 5 has been learning about shapes and after reading Makaraka School blogpost about making shapes with Explain Everything we decided we wanted to do the same thing on our ipads.

Lillyan Thanks Mrs Shortland

Today was a special day for our support staff. Our school celebrated people like Mrs Shortland, who works hard to look after all our reading resources. 

We made a Thank You card for her. We drew lots of colourful flowers and stars and we wrote about the lovely things she does for us like making our sausage sizzles and pizzas, fixing our books and getting our readers ready for us to read. 

We like Mrs Shortland because she is kind and nice to us. 

Lillyan did a little speech about our card. She told Mrs Shortland that Room 5 learners designed and made the card for her because she is our special support person.

A Principal's Award for Oshin 👏

Oshin received a Principal's Award at today's Virtual Assembly for her energy and creative dance moves during our daily fitness. Watch her dancing to the "Dance Monkey" Zumba.

A Principal's Award for Sione 👏

Sione received a Principal's Award at the Virtual Assembly hosted by Room 8. He led his classmates with confidence and enthusiasm when singing, Mr Caterpillar. Here is the link to Sione's Performance.

Celebrating Lillyan's Reading Success 👏

Today Lillyan received a Duffy Award at our school virtual assembly. She did brilliantly in her 6 year net test and moved up 8 reading levels since Term 4 2019. She is reading at Turquoise 1 or Level 17. That's a huge jump. Congratulations Lillyan! 👏

Mele Takes the Lead

Mele offered to lead the singing in Mr Caterpillar in today's Music and Movement lesson. She performs beautifully in front of her classmates and the Room 3 students.

Anthony Receives Two Awards 👏

Today Anthony is on a roll with his learning. He received a Principal's Award for moving up the next level in his reading and a Reading Award for good reading and writing in his 6 year net test from Mrs Pederson.
